This piece is inspired by loved ones of those experiencing addiction, in particular, alcoholism. Where addiction is heavy and painful, love is beautiful and continuous. I wanted to find a connection between these two very different ideas. One word that unites love and addiction is 'unrelenting,' which is what I wished to capture in this piece. The wine bottle represents addiction itself. The liquid level inside the bottle combined with the length of the life ring’s rope creates an impossible escape situation. The woman desperately trying to help her loved one cannot physically save him, however, she is unrelenting. This heartbreaking and painful scenario represents the emotions that addiction involves. The turbulent ocean in the background encapsulates the struggles of everyday life, which only add to their already complicated lives.
